 | Head Coach Alvin Gentry
(On giving up leads) "We’ve got to find some kind of resolve to come away with a win in these situations. It just really got away from us. We gave up 70 points in the second half and obviously you can’t do that. They came up with the plays and came back. We’ve got to keep playing and get this worked out. We have to figure out why we have bad stretches."
(On the second half) "Give them some credit. We had 68 points in the first half and just 46 in the second. We missed some shots and our defense has to be better. We’re in a funk holding leads and we have to come out of it. (On Danny Granger) Everyone knows he’s a tremendous player. A couple of years ago he really came into his own. He did a great job putting the ball on the floor. He made big shots and that’s what great players do."
(General) "We didn’t challenge. They made some three’s to start the third quarter which gave them the confidence to start feeling good about themselves. (On getting in foul trouble in the third quarter) We made fouls early in the third quarter which got them in the bonus early. They were able to shoot free throws every time we had a foul, which slowed the game down and helped them get back into it. (On whether the team’s confidence wavered during the comeback) We really did try to dig in. They made great shots. Dunleavy shot well and Danny made some big shots. We’re a good ball team we just need to be one for 48 minutes. We need to play ourselves out of this situation and I have total confidence we’ll do it.” |

“ Indiana came out and played hard and we didn’t quite match their effort in the second half. They shot well from the outside and got a couple of offensive rebounds. It was a momentum changer. We have to do a better job of playing consistently the whole night. Tonight was a tough one…we have to figure out how to maintain our lead all the way through to the win.” |

“Our pattern has been playing well for the first quarter and a half and falling apart in the second quarter. We did a decent job in the first half, but then we were like two different teams. In the first half, we were up tempo and attacking. In the second half, we kind of walked it up and looked lethargic. Indiana played well."
(On the recent trend of losing leads) "It is alarming for us. We have to figure it out, stay together, and try to improve. The only way you get there is as a unit. We’re good enough to get up big, but we have to get better at managing those leads.” |

“One of these days we’ll get a lead. That’s another tremendous gutsy comeback for our team. I think Dahntay (Jones) showed his tremendous professionalism by coming ready to play after not playing last game. I just wanted to go small and stayed small the entire second half."
(On Roy Hibbert) "We were going to bring him in when Amundson (Louis) came in but we were still going to stay small so we took Troy (Murphy) out. Roy was terrific. He got Stoudemire (Amar’e) in foul trouble."
(On Steve Nash) "I thought he played very well but I thought we defended him well. I definitely think things are turning. We’ve got to sustain it.” |

“Again, the second half turned things around for us. We just didn’t have it or didn’t figure it out in the first half. In the second half, we went small, got after the ball a little more, spread the floor a little more and it really helped by having veterans out there together. This is no reflection on the younger ball players. We’ve got to go to New Jersey now and come out and play the way we’re supposed to."
(On his game) "I am getting my legs back under me, getting back to more normal routine in shooting and hopefully my overall game.” |

“It was a very tough game and we found a way to win."
(On his game) "I just play and take what they give me. I try to be the best I can all the time."
(Why they played better in the second half?) "I don’t know but after 8 o’clock we seem to turn it on and play better. Sooner or later we’re not going to be able to do that and turn things around. It’s just like a professional fighter when you take a punch and get up. One of these days when we take that big punch we may not get up."
(On Mike Dunleavy) "It was great to have Mike back and performing the way he did. We all knew he could.” |
