 | Suns Head Coach Terry Porter
(Opening statement): “Well obviously, another very exciting preseason game; we got a little bit of everything. We tried down the stretch a little bit, but we kind of ran out of guys. As far as telling guys not to foul, we had three guys on the floor with five fouls, and didn’t want to put any of our other guys in. I give those guys credit for not fouling in the last three or four minutes. All in all we did some good things, just disappointed as far as in the second quarter we really let those guys get out of control. The big glaring thing that jumps out is turnovers again, we had 25 tonight and we had 20 plus the other night which led to 20 plus points for our opponents. We have to do a much better job taking care of the ball. Granted we had some different lineups out on the floor at times, down the stretch we may call some of that. We still have to do a much better job of taking care of the ball and valuing the possessions that we have, and down the stretch knowing the clock a little bit. We have done a poor job of clock management at times.
(On losing a first half lead)
We had good stretches where we had our guys in there and we had good energy and did a good job defensively, and then we put some different guys in there and they didn’t maintain the focus and energy we had before. We had a couple to close out the half, I think we had about 5 possessions where we passed up on some shots that we should of took. We ended up not taking them and that particular possession ended up being a tougher shot or a turnover and we have to do a much better job of when the offense gives you a shot, you just got to take it and take it with confidence.

(On playing point guard tonight)
“I ran the point quite a bit at Golden State, but we’re trying to get Steve Nash able to come off of some screen and rolls, as he’s our best shooter, so I think Coach will let me run some point this season.”

“We definitely feel good to get a win out there in overtime tonight. I felt pretty good for my first day back. To play 17 minutes felt good, although I’m not quite where I want to be.” |

“We lost. We played better, but just made too many mistakes down the stretch. We only turned the ball over 13 or so times in regulation, but must’ve had 10 or so in overtime. We didn’t manage the clock again, and got brain dead with 18 seconds to go and the ball with the score tied. But we did a lot of positive things. D.J. [Augustin] couldn’t make a shot, but he played great. I was proud of our bench, they gave us a big lift. We had a lot of good things happen, but at the end of the game, we lost.”
(On bench players contributing tonight)
“I’m thrilled, because a lot of guys who you wouldn’t expect to see in a game are playing and making a case for themselves.”

(On mental focus going up against Shaquille O’Neal tonight):
“I was just trying to follow the game plan. Coach told me that he wanted me to go out there and get rebounds and go after shots and present myself so as far as those keys go, that’s what I was trying to focus on doing. With Shaq, I was just trying to keep him off of the block and make it as difficult for him to score as possible.”
(On thoughts on the game)
“I think that we made a lot of improvements. I thought we were going to get away with the win tonight, but a couple of calls didn’t go our way and a couple of things happen, so we ended up losing by three. The most important thing is that the way we played for the most part was an improvement from our previous game, and that’s what you have to take away from it.”
