Suns Head Coach Alvin Gentry

(ON THE WARRIORS PLAY TONIGHT)
“I thought that they played well. Obviously you can see the talent level that Harrison Barnes has and even [Festus Ezeli]. I think that he did a good job of being a physical presence in there. They shot the ball extremely well and that’s without their best shooter, arguably Stephen Curry is their best shooter so there are a lot of good things that they did. For us we’ve got to not turn the ball over and we’ve got to do a better job at attacking the basket. We shot 14 free throws; a couple of them were on defensive three-second [calls]. In actuality, we shot 12 free throws for the game and that’s really unacceptable.”

(ON THE EFFORT FROM HIS TEAM TONIGHT)
“I like the effort from our team. Obviously in the second quarter was where the separation came. We scored 18 points and they scored 30 points, if I’m not mistaken. We had some really bad turnovers in that situation. We weren’t very fluid in our offense. We have more rhythm and more fluidity in our offense and we just didn’t have it tonight. We’ve got to get better at that. As I said to the guys ‘we’re not in a position right now that we can take a step back. With a week before the season starts we’ve got to be looking forward and taking a step forward,’ so we’ll continue to work [on] that.”

(ON STAND OUT PLAYERS FROM HIS TEAM)
“[Marcin Gortat] is a good solid player. I thought that he played well, [Luis] Scola played well. We had some guys that played well. Goran [Dragic] didn’t play a lot of minutes but I think that he did a good job of running the offense and trying to do what we wanted to do. We’ll just continue to try to get better. We’ve got a week before we play, but obviously, it’s going to be a challenge.”

(ON WHERE THE TEAM IS AT DEFENSIVELY)
“Defensively, we’re probably about 60% to where we need to be. We still have a lot of improving to do to be where we want to be. Up until this point tonight, I thought we had played pretty well defensively throughout the whole preseason. We took a little step back tonight and I don’t know if that was us coming off a back to back and obviously the Warriors are really strong offensively. We’ve just got to pay a bit more attention to detail. You’ve got to credit the Warriors for coming out and playing aggressive. They kind of put us back on our heels tonight. Going into the Denver game, we just need to keep on improving on where we want to be defensively, do a good job rebounding and keeping our turnovers low.”

(ON BEING A LEADER ON THE COURT)
“I put a lot of onus on myself to be one of the leaders here, definitely the vocal leader. I want to do a good job getting the message from Coach to the players. I want to show guys how to conduct yourself as a professional. On the court, never getting too high and never getting too low. I try to be positive at all times. You’ve got to have a voice of calmness out there. When something bad happens, you can’t act as if the world is ending. You can’t have that approach.”

Suns Guard Kendall Marshall

(ON HIS FIRST NBA PRESEASON)
“It’s been a learning experience. I’ve been just trying to pick up the NBA style of game, the concepts of the team and also getting better in the process, it’s a lot. I have full confidence that I’ll be able to do it and be able to be a contributor to this team.”

(ON HARRISON BARNES)
“I think he’ll [Harrison Barnes] do a great job. You can already tell that he’s comfortable that they have chemistry. He’s attacking the basket and hitting shots and that’s when he’s at his best so it’s good to see him doing well.”

(ON HAVING A LOT OF WEAPONS)
“Those guys [Marcin Gortat, Luis Scola] are two of our veterans and two of our better players on this team. I think we have a team where we have a couple guys who can lead us it just depends on the night. Last game Jared [Dudley] had 25, there are nights when Goran [Dragic] can get hot. There are nights where [Michael] Beasley can get hot. We’re just going to ride the hot hand. We don’t have any selfish guys on this team.”

Warriors Head Coach Mark Jackson

(ON HIS ASSESTMENT OF THE PRESEASON)
“We have to feel real good about what we were able to accomplish. In the Summer League in the preseason we developed great habits, worked extremely hard and we have a great group that is committed. Now the challenge is everyone starts back at zero; and can we chase down what we want now. We have to be proud about what we were able to do, no matter what. Feels good, but let’s make this a feeling that we expect every time we step out on the floor.”

(ON WHAT HE’S LEARNED ABOUT HIS ROSTER)
“Especially tonight – we were bad last night. We were real bad. We owned it. The challenge was, if we want to be a good team – the good teams bounce back. We had to do it on the defensive end and by executing. I’m sure my guys were tired, with the back-to-back, but we responded. At the end of the day, I know a lot more about this team. I know I have a great group of guys that are together. I have a bunch of guys that are buying in to what we want them to do. I know I have a team with tremendous depth with no personal agendas. That’s the start of chasing down what we want.”

(ON PRESEASON GAMES)
"You go through preseason and you fight really hard to get better as a team and individually. But you know these games don’t count even though we went 6-2, as of right now we are 0-0. I’m looking forward on going through another year, we have a great lineup, great guys in the locker room that are trying to have a fantastic season and it starts on Wednesday.”

(ON GETTING THE SEASON STARTED)
“There is a lot of optimism and lots of excitement. The roster is a little more experienced and we’re shaping up well. Once Wednesday starts it’s about taking those opportunities that we have in front of us. I’m looking forward to it. Hopefully we get off on a good foot and set the tone for how the season will be.”
