Croatian forward Damir Omerhodzic was one four players to go through the workout paces for the assembled Suns brass at America West Arena's practice court on Wednesday. Suns.com caught up with the 18-year-old forward and discussed his exhausting pre-draft workout schedule, as well as his connection to Suns center Maciej Lampe.
Suns.com: How did today’s workout go?
Damir Omerhodzic: It was a good workout. It was the same as everywhere, but I liked it. I’ve worked out with everyone. Over 20 NBA teams so far. I don’t know where I am or what day it is (laughs).
Suns.com: How did today’s workout compare with the others you have been to?
Omerhodzic: It’s been the same everywhere. Shooting, one-on-ones, show what you’ve got and that’s it. They told us to give 100 percent.
Suns.com: How would you describe your game at this point?
Omerhodzic: I like to shoot and go up one-on-one. I play fast breaks open shots.
Suns.com: What do you think the coaches are wanting you to work on?
Omerhodzic: They have to work on everything. It’s easy to see somebody stand in one place and watch them shoot. Some one-on-ones. It’s hard work for you, but still, it’s still something you must do in these workouts.
Suns.com: What do you think the biggest differences between Croatia and the NBA will be?
Omerhodzic: Power. There are much stronger players here. At 22 or 23, they’re much stronger here .
Suns.com: Has the experience of working out for so many NBA teams been a positive one?
Omerhodzic: I say I want to work for every team. I may not be 100 percent known in the draft. I’m just 18, but still this is good for me and my work. To play in the NBA, against great teams and players, it’s hard.
Suns.com: What is your relationship with Maciej Lampe like?
Omerhodzic: In Phoenix, one of my best friends plays here. Maciej Lampe. We grew up together in Sweden. Ever since we were 6 or 7. I love him. He’s great.
