Suns Host Green Game Against Hornets

Posted: Nov. 6, 2009

PHOENIX – The Phoenix Suns will host an ‘eco-friendly’ matchup, powered by APS, when they take on the New Orleans Hornets on Wednesday, November 11 at US Airways Center. Tip-off is set for 8:30 p.m., with doors opening at 6:30 p.m.

Throughout the night, APS will feature a variety of fun activities and giveaways, including orange LED bike reflectors and Steve Nash magnets. One lucky section will receive compact fluorescent light bulbs (CFL’s). These energy efficient bulbs handed out at the game will result in savings of approximately $24,000 in energy costs over the life of the bulbs and keep about 270,000 pounds of greenhouse gases out of the atmosphere.

Prior to tip-off, the APS Renewables – a team of clean energy super heroes, representing solar, wind, geothermal, hydro and bio-mass energy – can be found at the Bud Light Paseo, on the east side of the arena.

In honor of Veteran’s Day, five dollars from every ticket purchased to the game through suns.com/apsgreen will benefit Luke Air Force Base’s Live Green program. The Live Green program is part of the Air Force’s efforts to increase awareness of the community’s actions to help the environment. Luke Air Force Base’s airman and veterans from the American Legion of Arizona will be performing the national anthem and presenting the colors.

As part of the night, lower level tickets are being made available for $55 (regularly ranging from $71 - $126) and upper level tickets for $25 (regularly ranging from $30 – $54). Fans should enter the password “GREEN” to take advantage of the special offer.

In addition, US Airways Center will be powered by green renewable energy from APS that evening. The energy offset will be equivalent to the amount of energy needed to light more than 3,000 Arizona homes for a week.
