Dragic: I’m Happy We're in the West

If the Suns were in the Eastern Conference today, they’d be in third place.

This is not a complaint, merely a fact for a Phoenix team that currently sits ninth out West. And you can count Goran Dragic as one to do the opposite of complain.

In an interview with Zach Lowe of Grantland.com, the Suns point guard pointed out why he likes his team’s geographic location and its accompanying consequences in the standings.

Dragic: I’m happy that we are in the West.

Lowe: Really?

Dragic: Yeah! Why not? If you want to be a good team, you have to play against the best teams. For me, personally, I want to have tough challenges. The West is a little bit stronger, and nobody expected we would even be contenders for the playoffs.

Everything Dragic said in that snippet of Lowe’s interview is absolutely correct. Phoenix has gotten – and passed – a ton of tough challenges out West. They’ve beaten the Spurs, Clippers, Rockets, Blazers and Warriors this season.

That’s five legit victories for a team predicted to win less than four times that many games total this season. Dragic stuck to honesty when asked if he expected these results in the preseason.

"Oh, no. No, no, no, no. I mean, I’m always positive. I always think better days are going to come. We are 7-7 after our first 14 games, but after that, we went eight or nine straight games. After that, you get your confidence. You feel it. The team spirit was up. That was the time."
