The Phoenix Suns announced today the promotions of Vinny Del Negro to the position of director of player personnel and Todd Quinter to assistant coach/director of scouting. The pair will serve under Suns Vice President of Basketball Operations David Griffin and will assist in all day-to-day basketball matters.

“We are excited about bringing Vinny into basketball operations full-time,” Suns Head Coach and Executive Vice President of Basketball Operations/General Manager Mike D’Antoni said. “His passion and knowledge of the game should prove invaluable to us. Todd has been a tremendous asset to our staff in his advance scouting role and we look forward to him expanding his duties.”

Del Negro, a 12-year NBA veteran, played for five NBA teams (Sacramento, San Antonio, Milwaukee, Golden State, Phoenix) from 1988-90 and 1992-2002 and averaged 9.1 points and 3.2 assists in 771 career games. After two seasons with the Kings, Del Negro turned down an NBA contract offer to play for Italian club Benetton Treviso in 1990 before returning to the United States in 1992 to play for the Spurs. He wrapped up his playing career appearing in 38 games with the Suns from 2000-02.

Upon the conclusion of his NBA career, Del Negro made the transition to the broadcast booth, where he spent the last four-plus seasons as an analyst for ESPN’s NBA Matchup program, the San Antonio Spurs and the Phoenix Suns. Del Negro, who was born in Springfield, Mass., the birthplace of basketball and the home of the Basketball Hall of Fame, worked alongside the “Voice of the Suns” Al McCoy the last two seasons on KTAR 620 AM Radio.

Quinter recently completed his 20th season with the Suns and his 14th as an NBA scout. In his previous role, he served as the club’s advance scout and aided the coaching staff in their game preparation for upcoming opponents.

“TQ” originally joined the organization in 1986 as a video coordinator and has assisted the Suns’ in preparation for the annual NBA Draft, training camp and team’s summer league participation.
