Suns forward Tom Gugliotta finally has an answer to his mysterious foot ailment.

A three-phase bone scan conducted Wednesday revealed that Gugliotta has a stress fracture in a metatarsal bone in his right foot, trainer Aaron Nelson said. It is in the same area as a stress fracture he suffered last season in the cuboid bone, but it is not the same injury.

Nelson said Gugliotta will be placed in a cast today and is out for at least six more weeks.

"There will be a hole in the cast so we can use a bone stimulator to promote healing," Nelson said. "He could be in the cast four weeks or more, and then after it comes off, it's a matter of when he can get into basketball shape. That could be within the six weeks."

Gugliotta missed 38 games last season because of injuries, including the final 18 because of the stress fracture.

It is believed that the injury resulted from overcompensation Gugliotta made while recovering from a severe knee injury.

Gugliotta played in the Suns' first 10 games this season before he began experiencing pain in the foot.

He was placed on the injured list Dec. 6.
