The NBA All-Star Block Party presented by Right Guard will take place from Thursday, Feb. 12 through Sunday, Feb. 15 in an outdoor space right outside the US Airways Center in downtown Phoenix, the site of the 2009 NBA All-Star Game. It will be open to the general public and will be free for all fans to attend. The four-day celebration will feature a variety of events, including appearances by NBA players and Legends, live musical performances, video game kiosks, food and beverage areas, basketball-themed activities and competitions, and an NBA Store featuring authentic NBA All-Star 2009 merchandise.
Right Guard, which joined the NBA as an official marketing partner last June and is headquartered locally in Scottsdale, Ariz., will serve as presenting partner of the NBA All-Star Block Party. As part of its support of the event, Right Guard will host player appearances and provide coupons for free products, including their new Right Guard Fast Break deodorant, within the Block Party site. In addition, TNT and NBA TV will broadcast their live studio shows from the NBA All-Star Block Park presented by Right Guard on Thursday, Friday and Saturday.
“We are very excited to introduce this new event for fans during NBA All-Star 2009,” said Gail Hunter, NBA Senior Vice President of Events and Attractions. “Phoenix is city with a strong tradition of celebrating the outdoors, and the NBA All-Star Block Party presented by Right Guard will capture that spirit. The Block Party, free for all fans, will provide everyone the opportunity to join in the excitement of NBA All-Star. It will enhance the overall All-Star experience, which also includes NBA All-Star Jam Session presented by adidas and all of the events at the US Airways Center.”
“The NBA All-Star Block Party is a perfect way for us to build on our NBA partnership in proximity to one of the highlights of the NBA season,” said Doug Weekes, SVP GM, Right Guard. “The activities at this outdoor event will also be a great way to connect with our young sport minded consumers and show support in our home town.”
Several other NBA marketing partners, including EA SPORTS and Toyota, will also support the event by offering unique experiences for fans at their areas within the NBA All-Star Block Party. In addition, beer will be sold within designated spaces to guests who are at least 21 years old.
As the Official Vehicle of NBA All-Star 2009, Toyota will have two Matrix vehicles onsite featuring PS3 gaming systems where fans can play EA SPORTS NBA LIVE 09. Toyota is also the presenting partner of a music stage area that will feature local Phoenix-based groups. EA SPORTS will set up NBA LIVE 09 throughout the block party, with gaming competitions to be held at select times. A basketball court within the EA SPORTS area will feature a series of basketball activities and competitions. EA SPORTS will provide prizes for different activities and competitions, including copies of NBA LIVE 09.
