Alan Williams Watches Mom Sworn in as Phoenix PD Chief

Alan Williams Keeps Family, Phoenix Close to Heart

Before the Suns tipped off their road game against the Oklahoma City Thunder on Friday night, rookie big man Alan Williams glued his eyes to a phone just outside the team's locker room.

Work stopped him from being there in person, but there was no way Williams wasn't at least going to watch the moment remotely.

Jeri Williams, Alan's mother, was sworn in on Friday as the first female police chief in Phoenix history.

The Suns issued the statement below following the ceremony for Williams' biggest supporter.

“The Phoenix Suns family extends a heartfelt congratulations to Jeri as she assumes her new role as Phoenix Police Chief. We also share our best wishes and a great deal of gratitude and thanks to Chief Yahner, who we have worked with closely the past year and a half.

Alan is extremely proud of all Jeri has accomplished. It wasn’t long ago that Jeri was bringing a younger Alan to games. To now have her serving as police chief while Alan jump-starts his NBA career, both right here in their own backyard, is truly special.”

If you'd like to learn more about the Williams family, watch the exclusive Suns.com feature at the top of this page. The segment goes inside Williams' home and meets both parents as they share their unique Phoenix success story.
