2013-14 "Team Assist" Program Announced
Five Arizona high school basketball programs will be awarded monetary donations based on community involvement and equipment need
The Phoenix Suns and CenturyLink, Inc. (NYSE: CTL) have partnered to launch the 2013-14 “Team Assist” program, a community outreach initiative designed to provide new basketball equipment to one Arizona high school varsity basketball program per month from November 2013 – March 2014.
High school varsity basketball players and coaches, along with teachers, parents and local community members throughout Arizona are encouraged to log on to Suns.com/assist to nominate a basketball program based on their teams’ community involvement and equipment need. Entries will be accepted through March 17, 2014.
Based on the entries, representatives from CenturyLink and the Suns will select one high school per month as the recipient of a $1,000 donation, courtesy of CenturyLink, to be utilized for the equipment outlined in their proposal. The five winning schools’ varsity girls’ and boys’ basketball teams will also be invited to attend a Suns home game and will be recognized during an on-court presentation at halftime of their respective game.
“CenturyLink is dedicated to enhancing the communities we serve in a meaningful way. We are proud to have been partnering with the Suns since 2008 to bring new equipment to these high school programs,” said Ken McMahon, vice president and general manager for CenturyLink in Phoenix.
In addition, CenturyLink and Suns representatives will select the best entry out of the five monthly winners and that basketball program will be awarded a $5,000 donation during an end-of-season assembly at the winning school in April. All donations will be distributed evenly between the boys and girls varsity programs at each high school, though only one of the teams needs to be nominated.
