2013-14 Player Preview: Archie Goodwin

Archie Goodwin

At a glance: 6-5, 198 pounds, 19 years old

2013 Summer League stats: 24.6 minutes, 13.1 points, 3.3 rebounds per game, 50 percent shooting

How he got here: Drafted No. 29 overall in 2013

What he brings to the table: Athleticism and aggressiveness, particularly when driving to the rim. While some stats can be misleading, Goodwin's SEC-leading 6.4 free throw attempts per game last season were not. If he sees a seam, he's attacking it. He also excels in transition, usually cutting hard from the wing and finishing with a flourish.

Goal: Improve outside shooting (26.6 percent from three-point range at Kentucky)

Best game as a pro: July 16, 2013 vs. Memphis. The game marked Goodwin's coming-out party at the NBA Summer League in Las Vegas. The then-18-year-old poured in 22 points, including 13 in the opening quarter on a combination of dunks (three) and three-pointers (3-of-3). The performance made Goodwin a hot topic of discussion, as well as a scintillating prospect for new Head Coach Jeff Hornacek.
