The YMCA Jr. Suns/Jr. Mercury spring leagues held their Shootout and Championship Games at the US Airways Center on May 7th, 18th, and 19th. The Shootout took place on May 7th on the Practice Court and the main court and the Championship Games took place on May 18th and 19th on the main court. All of the D1, D2, and D3 leagues were here to participate in the competition and games.

Many Jr. Suns/ Jr. Mercury members came out to participate in the shooting challenges. The shootout festivities included a 3 Point Contest, Skills Challenge, and Shooting Contest. The 3 Point Contest allowed each player to shoot from designated spots on the court and earn points by making baskets from these designated spots. For the Skills Challenge players had to bounce pass, dribble through cones, do a lay-up, a pass, and then sprint back to the other side of the court while keeping their dribble in control. Last but not least was the Shooting Contest where each player was timed for 45 seconds and had to make shots from different spots around the court. First, second and third place winners from each age division were recognized and received a Jr. Suns/Jr. Mercury prize.

The Championship games took place on the main court for the D1, D2, and D3 leagues. The Jr. Suns/ Jr. Mercury participants came ready to play. All of the teams did a great job on and off the court showing sportsmanship, teamwork, and athletic ability.

The spring 2009 YMCA Championship games and Shootout gave Jr. Suns/Jr. Mercury participants the unique opportunity to showcase their skills in front of friends and family at the US Airways Center.
