Jr. Suns/ Jr. Mercury Day of Service

It has been a long standing goal of the Jr. Suns/ Jr. Mercury program to give back to the community. The 2009 NBA All-Star games in Phoenix gave Jr. Suns/ Jr. Mercury members the perfect opportunity to do exactly that. Two Jr. Suns teams from the Glendale YMCA went to the Kivel Senior Center in Phoenix on Monday, February 16th to spend time with the residents. The senior citizens at Kivel were very excited to see the kids and it really brought a smile to their faces when they walked in.

The two teams from the Glendale YMCA did numerous things with the residents including: Scrabble, checkers, arts and crafts, and Nintendo Wii.

The Jr. Suns/ Jr. Mercury members and the residents of the Kivel Senior Center really enjoyed each other’s company. It was a great experience and everyone was excited to be there. The Jr. Suns/ Jr. Mercury Program plans to make this day of service a yearly tradition for their members.
