One JrSuns team went primetime in front of a packed crowd at the US Airways Center. The team participated in the halftime entertainment during the Suns and Miami Heat game to showcase the JrSuns program.

But this wasn’t the teams first time playing on the US Airway’s court, “The team has had the opportunity to play in the arena during All-stars but never in front of a huge crowd. The All-stars is a lot of fun but it is nothing like playing during halftime in front of a crowd,” says Coach Michael Gutierrez.

When they were told they would be playing during the Sun’s halftime, they were everything but nervous. Coach Gutierrez says, “From the time I told the boys about the game to the time we left the arena, the boys were so amped. They weren’t nervous at all, but really excited for the opportunity.”

Team Thunder did a great job representing the league and their division by putting on a great show for the halftime crowd. The team competed in a split squad, and wowed the crowd as they showed off the skills they have developed competing in the JrSuns program.

This is Coach Gutierrez’s fifth year with his team and with the JrSuns program. “My team has come along way in the JrSuns program. The competition in the league has helped my team become better players,” says Coach Gutierrez. Currently the team plays in the 7th/8th grade Division 1 league at the Thunderbird YMCA.
