Phoenix Suns forward Boris Diaw and Phoenix Mercury Assistant Coach Bridget Pettis surprised Jr. Suns/Jr. Mercury team members at two Greater Scottsdale Boys and Girls Clubs locations on Saturday, February 9th. The duo spent the day signing autographs, taking pictures and interacting with Jr. Suns/Jr. Mercury players.
Arriving in the Suns Tundra armed with giveaway items, Diaw and Pettis were ready for action. The Boys and Girls Club Thunderbird branch marked the first surprise visit of the day. The Jr. Suns/Jr.Mercury teams had just reached halftime in their games as Diaw and Pettis walked into the gym. Each team received a pep talk including tips for improving their basketball skills, and a chance to catch some one-on-one time with Diaw and Pettis before taking the court to begin the second half.
Diaw and Pettis then headed to their second stop of the day, the Virginia G. Piper branch. Just as Diaw and Pettis arrived, games were briefly put on hold in order for Jr. Suns/Jr. Mercury players to shake hands, get autographs and take pictures. The teams were eager to learn from Diaw and Pettis about their basketball backgrounds and participation in youth sports. Each player at the Virginia G. Piper location received a t-shirt and autographs from both Diaw and Pettis.
Upon leaving the second surprise stop, both Diaw and Pettis were excited to show their support of the Jr. Suns/ Jr. Mercury program and the opportunity they have to interact with young players.
