Johnson On Feb. 26, 1988, the Suns made a blockbuster five-player trade with Cleveland that included rookie Kevin Johnson. Upon arriving in Phoenix, KJ redefined the playmaker position, becoming only the fourth player in NBA history to average 20 points and 10 assists over three separate seasons. Johnson also teamed up with Tom Chambers to help lead the Suns to the third biggest turnaround in league history, from just 28 wins in 1987-88 to 55 in 1988-89. The Suns also reached the playoffs in each of the guard's 10 full seasons in the Valley, playing in the Conference Finals on three occasions and the NBA Finals in 1993. During his Phoenix career, KJ averaged 18.8 points and 9.6 assists, and was named to three All-Star teams and Dream Team. Announcing his retirement earlier this season, Johnson ranks among Suns all-time leaders in nearly every statistical category, both regular season and playoffs.
