Everyone loves a good nickname and some of us are even lucky enough to have one. That's why we went back through Suns history to come up with the best five nicknames the team's roster has ever had.
Honorable Mention Backcourt 2000: Sure, Jason Kidd and Penny Hardaway probably should have been called "Never On the Court Together 2000" but the nickname was one of the cooler ones to occur in Phoenix.
Honorable Mention The Dragon: Goran Dragic has one of the coolest nicknames in the game. Who wouldn't want to be known as a fire breathing, flying lizard? Give him a few more good years and he'll move up the list.
No. 5 Horny: Maybe it's the little kid in us, but this nickname always made us smile. Although we always wondered just how Jeff Hornacek felt about being known by the moniker. Still good enough to make the list.
No. 4 The Man with the Velvet Touch: Many newer Suns fans probably don't know this nickname but it was one of many that W
No. 3 Socks: Probably the most simple name on the list but one of the best is Elliot Perry's. Known as Socks for his signature knee-high white NBA socks, he quickly became a fan favorite and so did the nickname. It made nerds everywhere feel warm and fuzzy inside. Much like the socks themselves.
No. 2 Thunder: Is tough to argue that this one doesn't deserve to be this high on the list. Dan Majerle made it such a popular nickname that an actual NBA team took it as their name. Plus, it was also a great description of some of the dunks he dropped back in the day.
No. 1 The Flying Dutchman: It's another nickname that the average fan might not know but when we asked legendary play-by-play man Al McCoy for his favorite nickname ever he didn't hesitate to give us Dick Van Arsdale's. You can argue with Al's choice but we wouldn't. In our books, he's master of ceremonies when it comes to nicknames.
