Top 5 Plays of the Week
Plumlee dunks. Dragic drives. Ish blocks...wait, what? That's right. Ish Smith getting up in a big way on defense is just one of this week's top five plays. And frankly, it was hard to narrow it down. That's what happens when Phoenix wins seven of its last nine and hands the Pacers two losses in an eight-day span.
Goran Dragic wanted to be an All-Star. Countless others wanted him in New Orleans as well. Desire wasn’t enough, apparently, not even when coupled with All-Star-worthy play. The Slovenian playmaker fell short in NBA coaches’ eyes (except Suns Head Coach Jeff Hornacek, who was under the league-wide restriction that prevents coaches from voting for their own players). Never mind that Dragic is averaging career highs in points (19.9), rebounds (3.4) and shooting percentage (50.0). Forget that he and LeBron James are the only players in the league to put up at least 19 points and six assists per contest while shooting at least 50 percent from the field.
Their recent upswing was mirrored by a similar move in the various NBA power rankings this week. Here’s a look at which set rewarded Phoenix the most and their thoughts in the process.
The duo also shares a unique cultural bond. Despite hailing from separate continents Dragic (Europe) and Barbosa (South America) found their personalities similar due to their respective experiences with international basketball and paths to the NBA.
