The Suns’ 30-20 start to the season is their best through 50 games since opening the 2007-08 season with a 35-15 mark. Perhaps more significantly, the Suns won their 26th game of the season at Philadelphia on Jan. 27, surpassing their win total of 25 games in 2012-13 with 38 games left to play. Goran Dragic has scored 20+ points in a career-long seven straight games and is averaging 26.9 points (.627 FG%, .633 3FG%) over this stretch.
In fact, when Goran Dragic is on the court, the Suns post an Offensive Rating of 110.1; when Dragic is on the bench the Suns post an Offensive Rating of 100.1, a difference of +10.0 points per 100 possessions when Dragic is on the court against when he is on the bench.
The Dragon had a historic performance vs. Golden State on Feb. 8, scoring a career-high 34 points on just 13 field goal attempts (10-13 FG, 6-7 3FG, 8-10 FT). According to the Elias Sports Bureau, only once prior in Suns history had a Sun scored 34+ points on 13 or fewer field goal attempts: Gail Goodrich scored 36 points on 13 attempts (10-13 FG, 16-18 FT) vs. the San Francisco Warriors on March 17, 1970.
Marcus and Markieff Morris’ chemistry is evident on the court as the twins are able to find one another in scoring position quite often relative to their teammates as 47.1 percent of Marcus’ assists this season have been to Markieff, and 34.1 percent of Markieff’s assists this season have been to Marcus.
Scoring in Droves
From the 1985-86 season through Jan. 18 of this season, just five times by four players had a Sun scored 30+ points while playing 28 minutes or fewer: Leandro Barbosa, Amar’e Stoudemire, Tom Chambers (twice) and Cedric Ceballos.
Since Jan. 19, three different Suns players have accomplished this as Channing Frye scored a season-high 30 points in 28 minutes vs. Denver on Jan. 19, Gerald Green scored a season-high 30 points in 28 minutes at Philadelphia on Jan. 27 and Goran Dragic scored 30 points in 24 minutes at Milwaukee on Jan. 29.
In Every Game
The Suns’ 20 losses have come by an average margin of 7.8 points, which is the 5th lowest average margin of defeat in the NBA.
Of the Suns’ 20 losses this season only four losses have come by double-digits and they have won each of their four games following a double-digit loss.
Fast and Effective
The Suns rank t-2nd in the NBA with 9.3 three-point makes per game and 10th with a .369 mark from long range and 1st in the NBA with 18.4 fast break points per game (Detroit is next with 18.3).
Phoenix also has scored at least 20 fast break points in 23 of the first 50 games of the season.
