Draft Pick Tracker: Feb. 13, 2014
1 / 4By Matt PetersenIt’s All-Star Weekend, time for each team to take a break, recharge, reevaluate and, ideally, prepare for a season-changing run. The Suns are concerned with their own fortunes, of course, but they’ll also be keeping an eye on Indiana, Minessota and Washington, all of whom owe conditional first-round picks to Phoenix due to previous trades. Those conditions are “pick protections”, which stipulate that if a pick falls in a certain range, the Suns will not receive that pick. We take a look at the latest trends from those teams and, as a result, the probability of the Suns getting those picks if the season ended today. A few more things to remember: Picks 1-through-14 are reserved for non-playoff teams. The order of the first 14 picks is determined by the Draft Lottery, which takes place every year in June. The lottery is weighted by record. The worse the record, the better chance to land one of the top three picks in the draft Playoff teams’ picks make up Nos. 15-30 in the first round. They aren’t determined by the lottery or any system of luck. They are arranged by regular season record, starting with the worst at No. 15 and ending with the best at No. 30.
