I’ll say it: Goran Dragic should be on the All-NBA First Team.
At the very least, he could even be considered for the NBA’s Most Improved Player award.
Nevertheless, The Dragon’s 2013-14 season is certainly one for the record books.
Dragic is averaging career highs in minutes, rebounds, field goal percentage, 3-point field goal percentage, and points all while amassing 35 20+ point games (he had a total of 31 from 2008-2013) and nine 30+ point games (3 from 2008-2013).
Stat guru Cole Mickelson – who is always awesome with player stats – has helped put together an amazing case that supports Dragic’s All-NBA bid.
Click through to see why.
Goran Dragic is the first guard in the NBA to be averaging at least 20 points, while shooting over 50 percent from the field and 40 percent from three-point since Drazen Petrovic did so for New Jersey in 1992-93.
Among all qualified players after 1992-93, only Dirk Nowitzki, Kevin Durant and LeBron James have done so.
History Being Made?
Goran Dragic is shooting .509 FG% and .416 3FG% this season; if he finishes the season over 50 percent from the field and over 40 percent from the field, he would join Steve Nash (six times, 2004-10) and Jeff Hornacek (three times, 1989-92) as the only Suns players in franchise history to accomplish this in a season.
Dragic and Kevin Durant are the only qualified players to be exceeding these percentages in the NBA in 2013-14.
First Since KJ
Goran Dragic is exceeding 20 points, 6 assists and 50 percent field goal shooting; the last Suns player to do this was Kevin Johnson in 1990-91.
Dragic, Lebron, Durant
Goran Dragic, LeBron James and Kevin Durant are the only three players in the NBA this season to be averaging at least 19 points and 5 assists while shooting at least .480 FG%.
In the 16 full seasons dating back to 1997-98, there have been just 23 times a player has posted these minimums over the course of an entire season; in all 23 instances, the player doing so played in the All-Star Game that season, which Dragic did not do this season.
Effective From Anywhere
Goran Dragic ranks t-10th in the NBA in three-point percentage and 24th in the NBA in field goal percentage.
Fast Break Points
Goran Dragic is 6th in the NBA with an average of 5.0 fast break points, the highest mark for a Suns player since 1996-97 (data only available since then).
Most Since Amar'e
Goran Dragic has nine games with 30+ points already this season, the most by a Suns player since the 2009-10 season (Amar’e Stoudemire, 15).
New Career Highs
Goran Dragic has set his career-high in points four times this season, including three times in February (most recently 40 points vs. New Orleans on Feb. 28).
