Suns Draft Central

Center | 6’-11” | 235 lbs. | Louisville

Two seasons ago, collegiate teams learned the hard way that it wasn’t wise to attack Gorgui Dieng. The athletic and long Louisville center swatted 128 blocks that season, which equaled more than three blocks per game. As a junior this past season, teams didn’t go near the disruptive defensive force as much, and his blocks fell into the 2.5 per game range. But Dieng also rebounded the ball better and showed a consistent ability to pass the ball well from the high post. Those are qualities that NBA teams will put a premium on when thinking about selecting this player, who otherwise is a little limited offensively.

“Outside of (Trey) Burke, no player in the tournament helped his stock more than Dieng. Dieng showed just about everything you want to see of a big man prospect. Size, strength, a soft touch around the rim, blocking shots, making plays, the monster dunks, the whole package, at least for a traditional big man. Dieng's not a superfreak athletically nor is he 7-0, but his play might have boosted him anywhere between 12 and 18 when he was targeted more between 18 and 25 coming in. He looks like a quality pick with a good, long-term career in his future.”
