Richardson, Suns Rebuilding Together
The Phoenix Suns, Rebuilding Together and Enterprise Car Sales teamed up to convert solid core doors into Suns themed bunk beds for deserving families of Save the Family on Thursday, October 29. Suns guard Jason Richardson was on hand to assist with this first-of-its-kind project. The project will benefit seven local families from Save the Family, a non-profit organization dedicated to assisting families in ending the cycle of poverty, abuse and homelessness. The solid core doors being used to construct the bunk beds would have otherwise been sent to scrap yards. The Gorilla, along with members of the APS Solar Squad, will also be hand to assist with the project. After assisting with building the beds, Richardson wanted to make sure the beds were just right for the kids!Watch video

Sergeant Williams Re-Enlists at US Airways Center
When Air Force Sergeant Brian Williams decided to re-enlist in the military for another four-year tour of duty as a Military Working Dog Handler, the nine-year veteran had his choice of where to hold the ceremony. The long-time Suns fan chose center court at US Airways Center and was presented with gifts from the Suns Gorilla, and Suns President of Basketball Operations and General Manager Steve Kerr. Suns Shine on Stage For Charity At the 2009 Suns & Stars Gala, Suns players including Alando Tucker, Louis Amundson and Shaquille O'Neal brought down the house by showing they had just as much talent off the court as they did on it. More: Video | Photos

Nash Makes Wishes Come True All-Star guard Steve Nash welcomed some kids from the Make-A-Wish Foundation, taking them to practice, hosting lunch and giving them the royal treatment at a recent game.

STAT Receives NBA Community Assist Award Phoenix Suns forward Amar’e Stoudemire has been named the recipient of the NBA Community Assist Award for October, in recognition of his outstanding efforts in the community and for his ongoing philanthropic and charitable work. Stoudemire is being honored following his recent support of the Zee Community Development Foundation (ZeeCD) after traveling to Sierra Leone this summer and experiencing first-hand the conditions under which more than six million poverty stricken residents are living.

Reading and Learning With the Suns In partnership with Toyota, the NBA and the Phoenix Suns have teamed up to create the Suns first YMCA Reading & Learning Center at the Tempe YMCA. Suns guards Steve Nash, Leandro Barbosa and Goran Dragic, joined Basketball Hall of Famer Bob Lanier to host the ribbon-cutting ceremony, explore the new space, read books and try out the brand new computers with YMCA members on Tuesday, Nov. 11.

$100,000 Playmaker Award Presentation Phoenix Suns Charities, the philanthropic arm of the Phoenix Suns, presented their annual $100,000 Playmaker Award to the Valley of the Sun, Chris-Town YMCA during an announcement on Wednesday, Sept. 17 at Chris-Town YMCA. The grant will be used to help fund the Chris-Town YMCA’s $4.3 million expansion project, adding 16,000 square feet to the facility, which opened in 1956. Construction is expected to begin in April 2009 and will include an expanded fitness center, teen center, community health clinic and the addition of a 10,000 square foot gymnasium.

Hill Raises MRSA Awareness Suns forward Grant Hill recently appeared on ABC News to create awareness about the dangers of MRSA. MRSA, which is a potentially life-threatening Staph infection that once plagued Hill himself, affected 90,000 Americans last year. Video

Shaq Helps Open Reading and Learning Center As part of Toyota Project Rebound, an unprecedented, season-long community outreach initiative by the NBA and Toyota, the Suns hosted the dedication of a new Reading & Learning Center at Hartley & Ruth Barker Branch of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Scottsdale on Wednesday, April 2. Suns star Shaquille O’Neal, NBA Legend Bob Lanier and Suns broadcaster Tom Leander were on hand at the event. Refurbishments included new carpeting and paint, furniture, computers and educational resources.

Suns Player Ticket Program Suns forward Grant Hill is providing Arizona kids the opportunity to attend a Suns home game this season through the Suns Player Ticket Program. In its fourth year, the Suns Player Ticket Program benefits non-profit organizations and schools throughout Arizona.
