In January 2014, program collateral will be mailed to all Arizona schools, both traditional and charter, with 7th grade classrooms. The program letter will be addressed to the school principal, and students will be encouraged to depict what freedom means to them through a piece of artwork and accompanying essay. Ten (10) 7th grade students will be selected to travel to Washington, DC to tour our nation’s “Symbols of Freedom.” Artwork & essays will be due February 14. Trip dates: Monday, March 24 – Thursday, March 27, 2014 (Suns @ Washington Wizards on March 26, 2014).
In January 2014, school improvement grant applications will be mailed to all Arizona schools, both traditional and charter, with 5th grade classrooms. The program letter will be addressed to the 5th grade teacher(s), and it will encourage their students to complete a proposal for a $5,000 school improvement grant. Once all applications are received, finalists will be selected to present their school improvement ideas to a panel of Suns and Southwest Airlines representatives. Four (4) schools will each be awarded a $5,000 grant to complete the school improvement project. The check presentation to the winning 5th grade classes will occur during the Suns vs. Grizzlies pregame on April 14, 2014.

The Suns donate thousands of complimentary tickets to schools and charity organizations each season. Through the APS Green Team program, Arizona middle and high schools can apply for an allotment of tickets to be used as a reward for students who have exemplified an outstanding commitment to their communities and the environment. Three students from each school are selected to have their photos taken with a Suns player on court at halftime and every student receives an official Green Team T-shirt.
