Gay: Dragic One of Team USA’s ‘Top Priorties'

Team USA will no doubt have studied up on all of Slovenia’s roster before Tuesday’s quarterfinal clash. Forward Rudy Gay, however, admitted that their focus will be on a certain guard who has tormented he and his teammaets in the NBA.

“[Goran Dragic] great in our league, so he’s definitely going to be a lot to handle out here,” Gay said. “He’s definitely one of our top priorities.”

He should be. The 6-3 guard is averaging 16.5 points per contest on nearly 60 percent shooting, as well as 4.3 assists, 3.5 rebounds and 1.2 steals per contest. Slovenia has lost just once thus far in the FIBA World Cup, a three-point defeat  to perennial power Lithuania.

The United States beat Slovenia handily in one of the pre-tournament “friendlies”, 101-71. They seem to know, however, that Dragic’s crew ran at well below fifth gear compared to its more meaningful efforts in Spain.

“Obviously I don’t believe they gave us everything they had,” Gay said. “I think they saved some things. Dragic didn’t have a great game and we’re expecting for him to have a great against us tomorrow.”
