Bledsoe Joins Fight, Plays Against Cancer

Despite Eric Bledsoe’s Alabama upbringing and pound-for-pound physique, the Suns’ point guard stayed away from football in high school in order to safeguard his skills on the court.

The 6-1 southerner can’t completely deny his affection for the gridiron, and will absolutely embrace it if it means fighting a good fight. Bledsoe joined other professional athletes in doing just that by playing in the third annual Athletes vs. Cancer Celebrity Flag Football Game held at UCLA’s Drake Stadium on Aug. 23.

Athletes vs. Cancer was jumpstarted by fellow NBA player Matt Barnes, who lost his mother less than a month after she was diagnosed with cancer in 2007. The non-profit organization provides financial grants to assist families with the costs of medical bills, treatments and medication. They also engineer interactive opportunities for patients outside of their medical facilities.

Bledsoe’s family accompanied him to the event, where he was also able to catch up with friends he made during his tenure with the Los Angeles Clippers earlier in his career.

While Bledsoe’s size and speed could make him an elite-level cornerback or safety, we have a feeling the Suns’ point guard would line up near the line of scrimmage and sack cancer if he could.

Here are some more scenes, obtained via social media, of Bledsoe at the event:
