Grizzlies Eclipse The Suns

LAS VEGAS, July 18 - The Memphis Grizzlies improved to 4-0 overall in its trip to Las Vegas for the 2009 NBA Summer League presented by EA SPORTS with their 97-60 defeat of the Phoenix Suns (2-2) Saturday night from the COX Pavilion.
Memphis took control of the game midway through the first quarter and never looked back, as they scored at-will. The Grizzlies shot 48 percent for the game, while holding the Suns to 33 percent. The 37-point differential was the largest margin of victory this summer league.
The first quarter began as a see-saw affair with the teams trading the lead on four occasions before Memphis put some distance between itself and Phoenix. The Grizzlies went up 10-9 with 4:46 remaining in the frame. Memphis managed to rattle off an 11-4 run to close out the first up 19-13.
The Grizzlies kept things roaring in the second, as they achieved five different 13-point leads before going into the break ahead 10, 48-35. Sam Young was the main catalyst for Memphis’ offensive explosion of 29 points in the quarter. Young tallied all 13 of his first-half points in the period off 6-of-8 shooting.
Memphis outshot Phoenix 47-to-35 percent in the third quarter en route to owning a 24-point cushion through 30 minutes of play. The Grizzlies maintained a lead in the teens for the first nine minutes of the stanza until Trey Gilder rattled off six consecutive points to push them into the twenties.
The fourth quarter was more of the same for Memphis as they kept adding more points to the scoreboard, while Phoenix sat back and watched.
