Washington's Andray Blatche led all scorers with 27 points to go with a game-high 15 rebounds in the loss.
Denver never trailed in the fourth quarter pulling away to stretch their lead to as many as 11 points before settling for the seven-point victory.
Both teams struggled offensively in the first quarter with Denver taking a 19-14 lead at the end of one on the back of Weems' eight-point four-rebound period. Young carried the Wizards scoring 10 of his team's 14 points to open the game.
The Nuggets went on a 6-2 run to start the second quarter, bringing the score to 25-16. Washington battled back, though, eventually tying the score at 37 points. Tyrese Rice connected on a half-court heave at the buzzer to give the Wizards a 40-39 lead going into the halftime break. Andray Blatche exploded in the quarter for 17 points, giving him a game-high 19 at the half. C.J. Giles came off the bench to score six points on three-of-three shooting for the Nuggets.
Ronald Dupree came up big for the Nuggets in the third, netting eight points and guiding his team to a four-point lead, 61-57, heading into the game's final stanza. Blatche continued his strong play, increasing his totals to 24 points and 11 rebounds.
