LAS VEGAS, July 18 – Both the Washington Wizards and Cleveland Cavaliers entered tonight’s game looking for their first victory at NBA Summer League presented by EA SPORTS. Behind a game-high 22 points from Andray Blatche, Washington (1-2) notched a 72-69 victory at the COX Pavilion on the campus of the University of Nevada-Las Vegas.

Despite shooting just over 35 percent from the field in the first half, the Wizards led by as much as 10 and never trailed on their way to a 38-34 halftime lead. The second half featured 10 total lead changes including Cleveland’s biggest lead of five, 64-59 at the 4:48 mark of the fourth.

The Cavaliers had two chances late in the game to pull out a win but fell short on both. J.J. Hickson missed two free throws with 43 seconds left and Jawad Williams failed to connect on a layup with four seconds remaining. Leading 70-69 with 1.7 seconds left to play, Dee Brown connected on two free throws to seal the Washington victory.

Romel Beck led the Cavaliers with 13 points and six rebounds while Hickson finished with 12 points and nine rebounds. Dominic McGuire and JaVale McGee rounded out the Wizards who notched double figures with 12 and 11 points, respectively.

Both teams return to action tomorrow in COX Pavilion as Washington plays Houston at 5 p.m. and the Cavaliers face off against New Orleans at 7:30 p.m.
