LAS VEGAS, July 16 Roger Powell scored 15 points as the San Antonio Spurs outlasted the New York Knicks, 82-67, in the first of six games Wednesday on the campus of UNLV as part of the 2008 NBA Summer League Presented by EA SPORTS.

The Knicks played without lottery pick Danilo Gallinari, who was out with a sore back. In addition, forward Renaldo Balkman sprained an ankle and did not return.

The Spurs improved to 2-1 on the summer, while the Knicks fell to 1-1.

Second-year center Ian Mahinmi and rookie James Gist each had double-doubles for San Antonio. Mahinmi totaled 14 points and 10 rebounds and Gist collected 10 and 10 .

Powell and Malik Hairston scored six points apiece in a decisive third quarter as the Spurs outscored the Knicks, 28-16, in the quarter to erase a four-point halftime deficit.

New York never regained the lead in the fourth quarter, managing just 12 points.

The Knicks were led by recent free agent signee Anthony Roberson, who scored 12 points. Wilson Chandler and Paul Miller added 10 apiece.
