LAS VEGAS, July 16 Rookie Marreese Speights and sophomore Jason Smith each scored 24 points to lead the Philadelphia 76ers past the Washington Wizards, 86-72, in the 2008 Las Vegas Summer League presented by EA Sports at COX Pavilion on Wednesday.

The 76ers led by as many as seven points in the opening quarter behind Speights and Smith, who combined for 20 of the team's 22 first-quarter points. Andray Blatche dropped in 10 points for Washington.

Philadelphia held a 64-60 lead entering the final period and widened the advantage as Smith scored 10 points. Washington managed just a dozen points in the quarter.

The Sixers improved to 2-2 in summer league play while the Wizards fell to 0-2.

The 76ers return to the hardwood on Thursday vs. Toronto at COX Pavilion. The Wizards return to the court Friday against Houston.
