Mayo, acquired by the Grizzlies in a draft day trade with Minnesota, scored 20 points. In his first games as a professional, he had a 26-point outing, made a 70-foot shot and had a thunderous transition dunk while looking consistently sharp.
The Clippers shot 9-of-12 from the field in the first quarter, opening a 22-18 lead as Williams scored nine points. The Grizzlies shot just 6-of-19 as Mayo was scoreless.
Memphis went scoreless in the second quarter until David Simon connected on a pair of free throws at the 6:38 mark.
The Grizzlies made a move in the fourth quarter, when Mayo scored nine points. They forged a 70-70 tie before the Clippers went on a 12-4 run over the final four minutes.
Memphis went 2-3 in summer play. Los Angeles returns to the hardwood Thursday vs. New Orleans.
