LAS VEGAS, July 16, 2008 –
Donte Greene and
Maarty Leunen scored 17 points apiece Wednesday as the
Houston Rockets edged the
Cleveland Cavaliers, 73-72, to close the sixth day of action at the 2008 NBA Summer League Presented by EA Sports in the Thomas & Mack Center on the campus of UNLV.
Cleveland took the lead on Robert Traylor's bucket at the halfway mark of the fourth quarter. Aaron Brooks gave Houston a 71-68 lead on a three-point play with 1:11 to go. Cavaliers first-round pick J.J. Hickson answered with a jumper, and two free throws by Clay Tucker gave Cleveland a 72-71 edge with 14 seconds remaining.
On the next possession, Brooks drew a foul from Mike Green with 5.3 seconds left and calmly sank both free throws to give the Rockets the lead. Green missed a potential game-winning shot on the final possession.
The Rockets held a 43-40 halftime lead. Greene, who scored 40 points in Houston's last game, had 12 points and rookie Joey Dorsey grabbed eight of his 14 rebounds.
Leunen scored 12 points in the third quarter, helping Houston open a 62-51 lead entering the final period. Hickson scored six of his 18 points in the fourth quarter to rally Cleveland.
