LAS VEGAS, July 13 – Bobby Brown racked up a game-high 20 points and buried a go-ahead basket with 30.9 seconds remaining to lift the New Orleans Hornets past the Charlotte Bobcats, 77-75, on the third day of competition of the 2008 NBA Summer League Presented by EA SPORTS.
There were 18 lead changes and 12 ties throughout the contest as no team lead by more than seven.
Hilton Armstrong added 14 points, while Julian Wright contributed with 11 points for the winners.
"Coming from a small college and then playing in Europe, its really important for me,” Brown said after the victory. “Being out here in this atmosphere and playing in the NBA level is a real challenge, so I have to step it up every game."
The disappointed Bobcats were led by their rookie point guard D.J. Augustin and his 15 points. Jermareo Davidson also turned in a solid performance with 12 points and nine rebounds.
“I think we gave a great effort tonight, but you can't give up 22 points on the fast break and give up 25 points off of turnovers and win a game, said Bobcats summer league head coach Dave Hanners. “I think we have to be a little bit smarter, and a little more under control and make some plays.”
Notes: Both teams will take Monday off and will resume action on Tuesday as the Bobcats host the Warriors while the Hornets will take on the Spurs.
