Spurs Coast Past Warriors
San Antonio 90, Golden State 80
Las Vegas, July 10 -- The San Antonio Spurs scored the first six points of the game and never looked back as they defeated the Golden State Warriors, 90-80 at Thomas and Mack Center.
Rich Melzer led the way for the Spurs. In his best performance of the summer league thus far, he netted 21 points in just 24 minutes of action. He shot 80% from the floor (8-10 FG) and 60% from long range (3-5 3FG).
Jackie Butler added 16 points (8-15 FG) and seven rebounds in 28 minutes for the Spurs.
“I just have to keep on working hard,” Butler said of his performance. “I was a little tired the first couple of days (of summer league), but I got my legs back.”
The Spurs dominated the paint, outscoring the Warriors 40-28 in the paint and 17-10 in second chance points.
Meanwhile, jet lag may have finally set in for Warriors rookie Marco Belinelli. After dazzling the Las Vegas crowds in his first two games, the guard scored a team-high 15 points but shot just 38% from the floor (5-13 FG) in 35 minutes of play. He came into the game averaging 30.0 points on 54% shooting in 38 minutes of play. Josh Powell added 14 points (6-11 FG) and seven rebounds in the loss.
