J.J. Hickson helped guide the Cleveland Cavaliers (2-0) to their second win in the 2010 NBA Summer League with a 93-82 victory over the Phoenix Suns (1-3) Wednesday evening in UNLV's Thomas & Mack Center.
Hickson had a game-high 34 points on 12-for-19 shooting, while getting 10 points from the free-throw line.
Cleveland scored eight straight points in the middle of the second quarter to break a 31-31 tie and take hold of the contest. The 8-0 run was the catalyst of a much bigger run that stretched into the Cavaliers reeling off a 20-5 stretch in a span of 6:08 in the waning moments before intermission.
The Suns outscored the Cavaliers 26-22 in the third and pulled within five at 60-55 with 4:15 remaining in the quarter, but were unable to get any closer.
Joining Hickson in double figures were Danny Green (14 points), Christian Eyenga (13) and Pooh Jeter (13).
Hickson fell one rebound shy of a double-double with nine boards.
Matt Janning led the Suns with 22 points, 11 coming in the first quarter.
Gani Lawal had 16 points and eight rebounds while Earl Clark added 13 for Phoenix.
The Cavaliers held a nine-point edge at the charity stripe, going 17-for-24 while Phoenix went 8-for-14.
The game featured four lead changes and six ties. The Cavaliers led by as much as 15.
