Summer League: Clippers 92, Celtics 77

Posted Sunday July 22, 2012 8:00PM

The Los Angeles Clippers (2-3) knocked off the Boston Celtics (2-3) by a final score of 92-77 on Sunday afternoon in both teams final game at the 2012 NBA Summer League. The Clippers built as much as a 12-point lead in the first half based primarily from their hot shooting from behind the arc at UNLV's Cox Pavilion and cruised the remainder of the contest.

Los Angeles' Adam Morrison put his squad up for good only 22 seconds into the contest with a made free throw. Morrison and his offensive cohorts then went to work quickly, as they put on a long-range shooting display. They knocked down six of their first seven 3-point attempts, which helped put a nine-point difference (25-16) between themselves and the Celtics.

Morrison finished with a game-high 26 points, while the crowd chanted "MVP" on every time he touched the ball in the second half. He sank 9-of-15 field goal attempts and was 4-of-6 from 3-point range.

The Clippers carried over a seven-point lead (25-18) into the second quarter before it was pushed to 12 going into intermission.

The point differential expanded to as much as 23 after Los Angeles rattled off a 20-7 run in a span of 6:46 in the middle of the third stanza. Talor Battle was the main catalyst of the scoring stetch, as she scored all nine of his third-quarter points in the run.

Immediately after falling behind by 23, Boston went on a 12-5 spurt of its own to pull within 16 at the conclusion of the third.

Despite falling behind by 22 on three occasions in the final 10 minutes of action, the Celtics outscored the Clippers 19-18.

Boston only made three more field goals in the game than Los Angeles, 34-31, but the key statistic was the 13-to-5 difference in made 3-pointers.

Los Angeles had three other players notch double figures besides Morrison's production. Battle finished with 17, while Antoine Wright and Gary McGhee had 13 and 10, respectively.

Jonathan Gibson led a quartet of Celtics in double-digit outings with his 14 points. Jared Sullinger followed closely behind with 13. Craig Brackins (11 points) and Larry Owens (10) rounded out the foursome.
