Summer League: Cavaliers 98, Knicks 64

The Cleveland Cavaliers led almost end-to-end to secure a decisive 98-64 win in the first game of the eighth day of competition at the 2012 NBA Summer League on the campus of the University of Nevada - Las Vegas. Tristan Thompson led the way for the Cavaliers with 13 points, while Tyler Zeller, Justin Holiday and Luke Harangody all chipped in with 12 in the win.

The Cavaliers jumped out front early, mounting a 13-2 run on the back of Tristan Thompson's 14 first-quarter points. At the end of one, Cleveland led 26-12. But, the Knicks battled back in the opening minutes of the second quarter, going on their own 8-0 run to cut an 18-point Cavs lead down to ten, 30-20 with 8:13 left in the first half. The run wasn't enough, though, with Cleveland outscoring New York 20-18 in the period to extend their lead back to 16, 46-30, when time expired in the second quarter.

Cleveland bounded out of the halftime break, scoring the first nine points of the quarter to take a commanding 55-34 lead over New York with 8:27 to play in the period. The Cavaliers extended their lead to as many as 26 points. At the end of three, Cleveland was up 75-49.

The Knicks, who held a 2-0 lead in the game's opening minutes before the Cavaliers turned up the heat, were led by Mustapha Farrakhan's 13-point outing. Jerome Jordan chipped in with eleven while Chris Copeland scored 12 on five-of-nine shooting in the loss.

The contest was the last for both teams at the 2012 NBA Summer League. The Knicks finished with an 0-5 record at this year's Summer Classic, while the Cavaliers head back to Cleveland with a 3-2 mark at the event.
