The NBA D-League jumped out to an early nine-point lead and never looked back as they scorched the Phoenix Suns 89-75 in the final game in Cox Pavilion on Friday night on the campus of University of Nevada-Las Vegas.
Chris Daniels tallied a game-high 20 points off the bench for the NBA D-League Select Team while Andre Emmett added 18 and Leo Lyons add 15. The Phoenix Suns were led by Markieff Morris with 16. Matt Gatens added 13 off the bench.
The NBA D-League Select Team led by as many as nine in the opening quarter and led 20-14 at the end of the period. Jerry Smith led the NBA D-League Select Team with seven points while Charles Garcia and Markieff Morris each added four for the Suns.
The NBA D-League Select Team led by as many as 21 in the second quarter and took a 48-27 lead at the half, holding the Suns to just 13 second quarter points. Andre Emmett and Chris Daniels led the NBA D-League Select Team in the quarter with nine and seven points respectively. Morris led the Suns with six.
The Suns opened the third quarter on a 14-1 run before NBA D-League Select Team head coach Eric Musselman called for a timeout. Following the timeout, the NBA D-League Select Team outscored the Suns 11-5 and took a 14-point lead, 62-48, heading into the fourth quarter.
The NBA D-League Select Team reclaimed their 20-point lead in the fourth quarter as they cruised to an easy victory over the Phoenix Suns.
The NBA D-League Select Team (2-2) will close out their five-game summer schedule on Saturday, July 21 as they take on the Minnesota Timberwolves at 5:00 p.m. PT at Cox Pavilion. Phoenix (1-3) will also close out their summer session on Saturday as they play host to the Memphis Grizzlies at Cox Pavilion at 7:00 p.m. PT.
