The Portland Trail Blazers cruised to an easy 95-82 victory over the Denver Nuggets on Friday afternoon in Cox Pavilion on the campus of University of Nevada-Las Vegas. Denver completed their five-game summer league schedule with a record of 1-4.
Damian Lillard, the sixth overall pick in this year's draft, led all scorers with 23 points and seven assists for the Blazers while Will Barton added 21 points. Denver was led by Jordan Hamilton with 18 points while Evan Fournier and Demonte Harper each added 17.
In an evenly matched first quarter, the Blazers led at the end of the first period, 27-24. Neither team led by more than three in the quarter that featured 4 ties and 13 lead changes. Barton led the way for Portland with eight points while Hamilton paced the Nuggets with seven.
The Blazers opened the game up in the second quarter with a 10-2 run and led 50-42 at halftime. Lillard led the Blazers with five second quarter points while Fournier led the Nuggets with six.
Portland extended their lead to as many as 14 in the third period of play and finished the quarter up 13, 77-65. Luke Babbitt led the Blazers in the quarter with 10 points while Ekene Ibekwe added eight. Demonte Harper and Jordan Hamilton each added nine for the Nuggets.
The Blazers continued their dominance of the game in the fourth quarter leading by as many as 22 while holding Denver scoreless for the first four minutes of the final period.
A moment of silence was held prior to the tip of the game to remember those whose lives were lost in the movie theater shooting in Auora, Colorado. The Nuggets also wore black head bands in respect of those who lost their lives and were injured in the shooting.
Portland will return to action tomorrow, July 21 in the final game of their summer league schedule as they host the Miami Heat at 1:00 p.m. in Cox Pavilion.
