The Charlotte Bobcats improved to 4-0 with their 99-86 victory over the Denver Nuggets (1-3) on Thursday night in 2012 NBA Summer League action from UNLV's Thomas & Mack Center. Charlotte was led by six players in double figures, which included a double-double from Kemba Walker.
Walker finished the game with team highs in both points (19) and assists (10) and also chipped in four rebounds.
With the scored tied at eight early on, Charlotte took the lead for good on a jumper from Walker with 5:10 remaining in the first quarter. The Bobcats then went on an 18-8 tear the remainder of the stanza. The run included a 9-0 stretch in a span of 2:08 that saw the lead balloon to 17-8. Byron Mullens and Walker were the main catalysts for the scoring outburst, as they produced seven and six points apiece, respectively.
After closing out the first quarter with a 10-point lead, the Bobcats saw their advantage drop to three with only 4:25 off the clock in the second frame. However, Charlotte turned things around with a 10-0 run in 2:20 that saw the lead grow to 13 at 40-27. They wound up going ahead by as many as 16 with 2:12 remaining in the half.
The teams went into the half separated by 10 points after Denver shaved six off the lead in two minutes of play. The Nuggets' offense cut the deficit down to two in a span of 7:33 that covered the end of the second and a portion of the third quarters.
From that point forward, Charlotte's lead fluctuated between three and 13 points before the end of regulation.
Charlotte got double-digit outings from Jeffery Taylor (16 points), Carlon Brown (15), Othello Hunter (14), Bismack Biyombo (12) and Cory Higgins (12).
Jordan Hamilton threw down a game-high 21 points in a losing effort for Denver behind a 9-for-16 shooting effort from the field. Hamilton fell one rebound shy of combining for a double-double of his own.
Denver's Evan Fournier (18 points), Gani Lawal (15) and Josh Carter (10) also chipped in double-figure efforts.
Both teams return to action on Friday for their fifth and final games in Las Vegas. Denver will take the court first with a 3:00 p.m. PT tilt against the Portland Trail Blazers before Charlotte and the Memphis Grizzlies tussle at 3:30 p.m. PT.
