The Houston Rockets defeated the Chicago Bulls 96-88 in the second game of the day at the Cox Pavilion during the 2012 NBA Summer League on the campus of the University of Nevada - Las Vegas. Chciago's Jimmy Butler led all scorers with 24 points while Edwin Ubiles, the NBA Development League's Rookie of the Year, chipped in with 13 points on six-of-nine shooting in the win.

The Rockets, who held a lead for much of the game didn't trail in the game's final quarter despite being outscored by Chicago 20-19.

The Rockets pulled away in the first quarter, three times leading by as many as 10 points, as Terrence Jones and Jeremy Lamb combined for 21 points on a combined eight-for-13 from the floor. At the end of one, Houston owned a nine-point lead, 30-21.

Chicago kept the game close in the second period, taking the lead, 41-40, on a Marquis Teague jumper with 4:06 remaining in the half. In all, the Bulls outscored the Rockets by six, 28-22, on the back of an eight-point quarter by Malcolm Thomas. The Rockets comfortable nine-point lead after the first was cut two three, 49-52, going into the halftime break.

The Bulls scored the first three points of the third quarter to tie the game at 52 on a pair of Leon Powe free throws before taking a one-point advantage, 53-52, at the 8:06 mark in the third. The teams traded buckets before the Rockets pulled away, embarking on a 9-0 run to take a game-high 10-point lead, 65-66, on a Scott Machado jump shot with 5:56 to play in the frame. When the buzzer sounded ending the third quarter, the Houston had regained its nine-point lead, 77-68.

Machado led the way for Houston with 20 points, good for second-best in the game. He headlined a group of five Rockets to score in double digits as Jones finished with 17 and Lamb had 16 points.

With the win, Houston completes its five-game stint at the Summer Classic, finishing with a 4-1 record at the event. Chicago returns to action on Friday, July 20 when the team faces the Golden State Warriors at 5:30 p.m. PT.
