Summer League: Hawks 67, Mavericks 61

John Jenkins and the Atlanta Hawks handed the Dallas Mavericks their first summer league loss 67-61 Wednesday night at the summer desert classic in Las Vegas. The Mavericks struggled from the field the entire game shooting just 37 percent on the night (26-for-70) while the Hawks shot just 21-for-52 for 40 percent.

Jenkins led all scorers with 21 points while Mike Scott was the only other Hawk to score in double-figures with 11. Jae Crowder led the Mavericks with 20 points while Dominque Jones added 12 and Bernard James added 11.

The Hawks led 20-13 at the end of one with Jenkins leading the way with 11 of the 20 points on 5-for-7 from the field including 1-for-2 3-pointers. Crowder, the 34th overall pick in the 2012 NBA draft, led the Mavericks with six points in the opening stanza.

The Mavericks went on a 9-0 run late in the second quarter and took a one-point lead with 1:38 left in the quarter. Trading baskets for the remainder of the period, the Hawks took a one-point lead, 32-31 at the half. Crowder sparked the Mav's second quarter come back with seven points.

Atlanta built an 11 point lead in the second half led by Jordan Taylor's seven points in the third quarter to take a 55-44 advantage heading into the final period. The Mavericks continued to struggle from the field shooting 5-for-16 in the period.

The Mavericks shot 50 percent in the fourth quarter and made a run at the Hawks but it wasn't enough as Atlanta held on for the win.

The Hawks will close out their summer schedule Thursday, July 19 at 3:00 p.m. PT as they play host to the Trail Blazers. The Mavericks will return to action Friday, July 20 at 7:30 p.m. PT against the New Orleans Hornets.
