The Milwaukee Bucks (1-0) held off a late rally by the New Orleans Hornets (0-2) for a 76-68 win in 2012 NBA Summer League action from UNLV's Thomas & Mack Center. Milwaukee broke out to an 18-point lead on two occasions in the fourth quarter only to see New Orleans rattle off a 15-0 run to pull within one with 42 seconds remaining in the game. The comeback attempt was halted when the Bucks scored nine of the contest's final 11 points.
Milwaukee was led by a double-double from Jarrid Famous, who contributed 13 points and 11 rebounds in the victory. Famous was instrumental in helping his squad maintain its lead down the stretch, as he put back a missed free throw to increase the Bucks' lead to three with 31 seconds left in regulation.
Doron Lamb led Milwaukee in scoring with 20 points, while Tobias Harris followed closely behind with 19. Cameron Wells rounded out the quarter of Bucks in double digits with 11 points and six boards.
The Bucks totally dominated the first 10 minutes of the contest due to a 50-percent shooting effort from the field (15-for-30). They outscored the Hornets 21-13 with the assistance of a 10-0 run in a 2:02 span and 17 combined points from Lamb and Harris. The former had nine points to the latter's eight.
Milwaukee kept the hot hand at the start of the second quarter by scoring eight straight to extend its lead to 16. However, the Bucks were stuck on 29 points for the following 4:56, as the Hornets shaved 11 points off its deficit. New Orleans run lasted 4:14 and pulled the squad within five with three minutes remaining in the half.
In the third, New Orleans pulled within two points at the 42-40 juncture, but then witnessed Milwaukee go on a scoring tear in a span of 6:42 that overlapped the third and fourth frames. The Hornets then countered with its big 15-0 run down the stretch.
New Orleans' Lance Thomas led all scorers with 22 points. Darius Miller and Brian Roberts contributed 11 apiece.
Both teams return to action on Tuesday with Milwaukee playing first at 1 p.m. vs. Washington Wizards. New Orleans will wait until 5:30 p.m. to take on the Phoenix Suns.
