Summer League: Timberwolves 73, Clippers 64

Wes Johnson's 16 points helped the Minnesota Timberwolves to a 73-64 victory over the Los Angeles Clippers in the night ap at 2012 NBA Summer League on the campus of the University of Nevada-Las Vegas. Johnson was complimented by a 15-point outing from Derrick Williams, who also finished with nine boards in the win.

The Timberwolves charged into their first game in Las Vegas, using a 12-4 first quarter-run to take an 18-10 lead at the 3:19 mark. Derrick Williams and Wes Johnson combined for 14 of Minnesota's 25 first-quarter points while Clippers Trey Thompkins and Hilton Armstrong each scored five in the frame. At the end of one, Minnesota led 25-17.

Los Angeles battled back in the second quarter, though, outscoring the Timberwolves 18-13 and cutting the lead to as few as two points, 35-33, with under a minute left in the first half. Minnesota held on to take a 38-35 advantage into the halftime break.

The teams traded buckets in the third period, with neither owning more than a five-point advantage for the first seven minutes of the second half. Minnesota was up eight, 58-50 with three periods in the books.

Minnesota opened up a 10-point lead in the fourth, 64-54, with 6:41 to play. Los Angeles battled to chip away at the lead, but Minnesota's offense was consistent, keeping the Clippers at bay.

Four Clippers scored in double figures with Terrico White's 16 points leading the way. Adam Morrison, Eric Bledsoe and Hilton Armstrong each contributed with 11 in the losing effort.

Minnesota (1-0) returns to NBA Summer League action tomorrow when the team faces the Charlotte Bobcats at 7:30 p.m. PT, while the Clippers play the San Antonio Spurs on Wednesday, July 18 at 7 p.m. PT.
