Summer League: Rockets 113, Kings 91

Posted Monday July 16, 2012 8:59PM

The Houston Rockets (2-1) outscored the Sacramento Kings (1-2) by 17 points in the first half and cruised to a 113-91 victory Monday afternoon at the 2012 NBA Summer League held at UNLV's Thomas & Mack Center. Houston's 17-point differential helped erase a six-point deficit amassed early in the first quarter.

After Sacramento staked itself to a 16-10 lead in the first, Jeremy Lamb scored nine straight for Houston to help pull the game even at 22-all after 10 minutes of play.

The Rockets kept the momentum in their favor in the second quarter, as they outscored the Kings by 35-24 in the stanza. Gary Forbes led the team with nine points in the frame, while Donatas Motiejunas and Courtney Fortson had eight and seven, respectively.

Motiejunas gave the Rockets the lead for good off an alley-oop layup with 6:16 left in the half. Houston never trailed after the basket and built up a as much as a 12-point cushion before intermission.

Houston kept its offense revving in the second half, as it pushed out to as much as a 24-point lead in the waning moments of the game. The biggest factor in the Rockets' output was the 64 points that were scored in the paint compared to 36 for the Kings.

The Rockets had seven players hit double digits with Motiejunas and Lamb tying for the team lead with 19 apiece. Terrence Jones added 17, while Marcus Morris, Fortson and Forbes all had 11. Royce White contributed the only double-double of the game with 11 points and 10 rebounds.

Jimmer Fredette, who finished with a game-high 30 points, chipped in 11 scores in both the second and fourth quarters. Fredette made 10-of-21 field goals and all eight of his free throw attempts.

Tony Mitchell added 15 points for the Kings, while Michael Lee (12 points) and Thomas Robinson (10) joined him in double figures.

Houston returns to the court on Tuesday against the Portland Trail Blazers at 5 p.m., while Sacramento has a day off before its Wednesday tilt with the Toronto Raptors at 3:30 p.m.
