Summer League: Mavericks 85, Raptors 75

The Dallas Mavericks took the lead late in the first quarter and never looked back as they cruised to an 85-75 victory over the Toronto Raptors Monday afternoon in the summer desert classic in Las Vegas on the campus of UNLV.

Three players scored in double-digits for the Mavericks including a team high 21 points for Dominique Jones while Jae Crowder added 13 and Bernard James added 13. The Raptors were led by Ed Davis who tallied a game high 23 points and Bobby Brown added 19 off the bench.

Both teams playing the backend of a back-to-back, the game was close at the end of the first quarter with the Mavericks taking the lead on an 11-0 run to take the 24-21 advantage at the end of the quarter. Dominique Jones spurred the Mavs run with nine points in the quarter on 3-3 from the field and 3-4 from the charity stripe.

Dallas continued their dominance in the second quarter and led by 20, 50-30, at the half, holding the Raptors scoreless the last five minutes of the half. Dallas shot 55 percent from the field in the first half (20-36) while holding the Raptors to just 36 percent (11-30).

Attempting to snap a three-game skid, the Raptors mounted a comeback that spanned the third and fourth quarters but it wasn't enough as the Mavericks maintained their lead through the end of the game, leading by as many as 24 in the contest.

Both teams will return to the hardwood on Wednesday, July 18, the Mavericks (2-0) hosting the Hawks at 5pm in Cox Arena and the Raptors (0-3) will take on the Kings at 3:30 p.m. in Thomas & Mack.
