The Miami Heat (1-0) used a 28-15 spurt in the final 11 minutes of its 2012 NBA Summer League game to knock off the Toronto Raptors (0-2) by a 71-59 final score from UNLV's Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas.
After watching Toronto's offense wipe away a 12-point lead and eventually take short-lived lead at the 45-44 juncture, Miami turned things around with a 28-15 run in the final 10:36 to seal the victory.
Dexter Pittman and Terrel Harris were two of the reasons for the Heat's big outburst down the stretch, as the duo combined to score 13 of the team's 28 points. Pittman had seven of his 13 for the game in the fourth, while Harris chipped in six of his team-high 14 in that same time frame.
Norris Cole and Drew Viney joined Pittman and Harris in double figures with 13 and 12 points of their own, respectively.
Early in the contest, the Heat outdistanced itself from the Raptors with the assistance of a 13-0 run that overlapped the first and second quarters and lasted a span of 4:48. Miami turned a one-point deficit (11-10) into a 12-point advantage just 2:37 into the second stanza. Viney scored seven of the 12 points to spark the Heats turnaround.
Toronto then went on a tear of its own and closed out the final 7:27 of the opening half with a 14-4 stretch to pull within two, 31-29, before the intermission. Half of the squad's output came from Terrance Ross, who contributed five scores from the free-throw line.
Miami found its shooting touch in the initial moments of the third quarter, as it rattled off a 7-0 run in just over two minutes to stake itself to a 38-29 lead. However, Toronto flipped the page in a 15-5 run in the waning moments of the third.
The Raptors got a double-double from Ed Davis, who combined 15 points and 12 rebounds for the feat. Both figures were game-highs for the 2010 draft pick out of North Carolina.
Toronto also had Ross and Chris Wright notch double figure with the former scoring 14 to the latter's 11 points, while each had six rebounds.
Both squads return to action on Monday with Toronto facing Dallas at 3 p.m., while Miami follows shortly after with a 5:30 p.m. tilt against the Los Angeles Lakers.
