Summer League: Kings 84, Lakers 72

Rookie guard Josh Akognon led the Sacramento Kings to an 84-72 victory over the Los Angeles Lakers in the third game on the second day of action at the 2012 NBA Summer League in Las Vegas at the Cox Pavilion on the campus of the University of Nevada - Las Vegas. Akognon, who finished the game with 25 points on 10-of-16 from the floor and four-of-eight from behind the arc, came off the bench, not seeing action in the first quarter.

The game got off to a slow start, with Sacramento edging Los Angeles 15-12 in the first period. Akognon, who played last season for the NBA D-League's Canton Charge, was the spark the Kings needed, snapping the team's slow start. He scored 14 points in the second quarter, including a pair of three-pointers. On the Lakers' side, Darius Morris paced the team with seven points to lead Los Angeles to a one-point advantage, 37-36, going into the half.

The contest stayed close through three quarters with the Kings' Thomas Robinson, the fifth overall selection in last month's NBA Draft, scoring 10 points while Morris added ten in the frame. At the end of three, the Kings owned a 62-57 advantage.

The Kings dominated the fourth quarter, stretching their lead to as many as 18 points on the back of a 13-3 run before settling for the 12-point victory.

Jimmer Fredette scored 15 in the contest for the Kings and Robinson finished the game with 14 points. For the Lakers, Morris scored a game-high 17 points while Christian Eyenga and Andrew Goudelock each scored 11 points.

Both teams return to action on Monday, July 16 with the Kings taking on the Houston Rockets at 3:30pm and the Lakers facing the Miami Heat at 5:30pm.
